Outreach Coordinator

This position is responsible for providing outreach, and enrollment assistance for Medicare beneficiaries who are eligible for financial assistance programs. This includes client counseling, enrolling beneficiaries, publicity, and development of collaborative partnerships. The coordinator will specifically target low-income and rural Medicare applicants. This position will work to reach program deliverables to include enrollment numbers, outreach events and volunteer recruitment.

Position is required to:

  • Creates an annual outreach plan
  • Develops plan to recruit, train, and utilize volunteers
  • Schedules outreach presentations in the community
  • Develops a consistent presentation outline
  • Develops outreach materials and packets
  • Prepares monthly statistics and reports of services provided
  • Provides S.H.I.N.E. counseling to help seniors navigate Medicare and related health insurance programs. 
  • Oversees other volunteers who provide S.H.I.N.E. counseling services.
  • Maintains confidentiality on all client medical and personal information.
  • Assists with informing and educating the community through newsletters and presentations
  • Maintains relationships with collaborative partners and cultivate new ones
  • Assists in the coordination of special events
  • Meets contract deliverables by and through outreach activities
  • Locates counseling sites and enrollment events to reach targeted low income seniors
  • Plans and presents educational training programs and workshops to build volunteer-related knowledge base within the community
  • Represents the Agency at community events, meetings and other functions to present information; build awareness or to recruit new volunteers
  • Responsible for planning, scheduling and executing community events & targeted client outreach activities including delivering stand up presentation or meeting with clients one on one to ensure contract goals are met
  • Seeks and finds appropriate outreach events
  • Conducts outreach and publicizing of available programs
  • Identifies and partners with additional local community access points such as senior centers, churches, and others in targeted areas to develop enrollment sites and provides outreach and assistance to eligible seniors

 

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the following skills:

  • Customer Service Orientation and ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing
  • Good Listening and Telephone Etiquette Skills
  • Patience and the ability to work effectively with upset, angry, hostile or repeat callers, or callers who may be in a crisis mode
  • A sincere desire to work with seniors
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to effectively liaison with others on behalf of eligible callers
  • Ability to locate and seek out additional resources via the Internet or other networking methods
  • Computer data base input and retrieval

Minimum Requirements for position:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a concentration in human services, social work, sociology, psychology, gerontology or other related field OR
  • AA degree and a minimum of two years of experience in an Agency that provided, planned for or coordinated the provision of human services for seniors
  • Experience as an educator or in a benefits related field is preferred
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and current automobile insurance

Preferred requirements:

  • AA or bachelor’s degree
  • Prior experience serving elderly or other special needs populations
  • Alliance for Information and Referral Standards (AIRS) certified
  • Knowledge of local community resources

Salary/Training. Location and Hours of Operation:

  • Salary: $35,360
  • Frequent travel by car required
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer
  • Minimal lifting up to 15 pounds
  • May need to participate in infrequent evening or weekend outreach events
